Smart Finds a New Way of Long-Distance Travelling

Close cooperation of Smart and Interfleet, a British train engineering company, in the course of hard six months resulted in creation of the Smart Forrail. Although its name speaks for itself, the invention boggles the mind, right?

The Forrail can be taken as a new version of the Forfour at the first glance. The mini-train uses the Tridion safety cell and moves on 22-inch solid steel wheels (each wheel weighs 176 pounds).

It covered a 10-mile distance of railway on the Bluebell Railway (Sussex, England) under close supervision of specialists and curious public. A Smart looked ridiculous on tracks as if discrediting the whole idea of railway that was created for extremely huge and heavy vehicles to move around without jamming.

Smart explains the Forrail isn’t meant to be taken seriously; it’s rather an advertising gimmick. The automaker doesn’t intend to launch mini-trains production. It just wanted to experiment with the advantages of travelling by car and train combined. The experiment was conducted successfully but Smart wouldn’t recommend anyone to do the same – this project took huge efforts.
